The crash happened at approximately 11:42 a.m. Friday on northbound E-470 near the Gartell exit. Investigators said the man, who was driving a Toyota SUV, had pulled onto the shoulder to check on something. During that time, a semi-truck was traveling northbound in the right lane. The man was outside the SUV and was struck in the roadway by the semi-truck.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said they determined the man took his own life.

The investigation remains ongoing.
