59-Year-Old Man Killed After Exiting SUV and Being Hit by Semi-Truck on E-470 Shoulder
ARAPAHOE COUNTY, COLORADO — A 59-year-old man was killed late Friday morning after being struck by a semi-truck in the northbound lanes of E-470 near the Gartell exit, prompting a full closure of northbound traffic between Jordan Road and Parker Road while troopers investigated and crews cleared the scene.

The crash happened at approximately 11:42 a.m. Friday on northbound E-470 near the Gartell exit. Investigators said the man, who was driving a Toyota SUV, had pulled onto the shoulder to check on something. During that time, a semi-truck was traveling northbound in the right lane. The man was outside the SUV and was struck in the roadway by the semi-truck.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said they determined the man took his own life.
The semi-truck driver was not injured and remained at the scene.
Northbound E-470 was completely shut down between Jordan Road and Parker Road during the investigation and cleanup. By 2:27 p.m., all but one lane had reopened.
The investigation remains ongoing.
