PLACER COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — The California Highway Patrol issued a public safety announcement after a commercial truck attempted to travel down Yankee Jim’s, a one-lane gravel road between Foresthill Road and Interstate 80, despite the route being widely known as extremely difficult to navigate—even for smaller vehicles.

CHP urged commercial drivers and all motorists to confirm GPS and phone-map routes before committing to them, especially when operating large vehicles or towing trailers. Officers emphasized that length and weight restriction signs are posted on many routes for safety, and drivers should pay close attention to them.

According to CHP, the truck driver attempted to traverse Yankee Jim’s in rural Placer County, a road CHP described as “almost impassable in a pick-up truck, let alone a big rig.” CHP said no one was injured during the incident as the driver tried to take what CHP called a “scenic drive” through the area.

CHP also noted that the company name shown on the trailer is not connected to the driver or the carrier contracted to haul it, and reminded the public that roads remain wet and slick, urging drivers to use extra caution.
