Officials said the first crash happened just after 3 a.m. near mile marker 49 during dense fog. TDOT reported the tractor-trailer was involved in the initial incident, and a photo released by the agency showed a sedan crashed into the side of the trailer near the rollover scene.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said no one was injured in the initial rollover crash, but a separate crash with injuries was later reported in the same area as conditions and congestion built up near the closure.
During the response, traffic was diverted at the Almaville Road exit, and the affected stretch of I-840 eastbound remained closed while emergency crews worked the scene and cleared the roadway.
The interstate fully reopened around 7:30 a.m., with all lanes back open and normal traffic flow gradually returning.
