The crash was reported shortly after 1 a.m. near Waterman Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. Investigators said details about what led up to the crash were not immediately available. Initial information indicated the big rig struck the center divider, causing multiple boxes of corn to spill into the roadway. Debris from the crash also affected the westbound side, creating hazards and forcing lane closures on both sides of the freeway.

Reports described a major disruption at the scene, with boxes of corn scattered across the freeway. Authorities said two left lanes on the eastbound side were blocked, and the left lane on the westbound side was also blocked due to debris and cleanup needs. Another report indicated the semi was fully loaded and ended up in the eastbound lanes near Waterman Avenue, worsening the traffic impact.

SigAlert was issued for the lane closures, and the shutdown was expected to remain in place until around 8 a.m. as crews worked to clear the spilled cargo and reopen lanes. It was not immediately clear whether the driver was injured or whether any other vehicles were involved.
