WRIGHTSTOWN, WISCONSIN — A flatbed semi-truck crashed through a Shell gas station in Wrightstown on Wednesday morning, sending the driver to the hospital and prompting an extended emergency response as crews assessed damage to the building and worked to safely remove the truck from the structure.

Firefighters on scene said the gas station attendant was inside when the semi plowed into the building and came within inches of being hit by debris. Officials said the attendant was not injured.

Authorities said they could not immediately confirm the driver’s age or condition, but noted the driver was able to get out of the semi on his own before being transported to the hospital.

Investigators have not confirmed what caused the truck to crash into the station, and officials said the circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation.

Because of the structural impact, Green Bay Metro Fire Chief Matthew Knott responded to the scene, with officials noting that Green Bay Metro firefighters are specialized in evaluating building stability after incidents like this. Chief Knott said firefighters are expected to remain on scene for most of the day to ensure the building does not shift or suffer further damage when crews begin pulling the semi out of the structure.

Traffic impacts continued after the crash. As of the latest update, Main Street at the Broadway roundabout remained closed while first responders maintained the scene and recovery operations continued.
