SYLMAR, CALIFORNIA — A freeway crash involving a semi-truck and another vehicle left one person dead early Sunday morning on the eastbound 210 Freeway near Polk Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials said the first calls came in around 5:00 a.m., reporting a collision on the eastbound 210 Freeway near Polk Street in the San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Sylmar. First responders arrived within minutes, and authorities shut down all eastbound lanes to handle the scene and investigation.

The Los Angeles Fire Department also responded and confirmed that one person died at the scene. In an emergency alert, LAFD said fire crews assisted CHP officers with the extrication of the body.

Officials have not determined what caused the crash, and the person who died has not yet been identified.

CHP said the full closure remained in place for at least three hours, and shortly before 10:00 a.m. authorities announced that all eastbound lanes of the 210 at Polk Street had reopened.
