SAINT-ALEXANDRE-DE-KAMOURASKA, QUEBEC — A VIA Rail train derailed early Monday morning in Quebec’s Bas-Saint-Laurent region after colliding with two semi-trailer trucks that were parked near the tracks, according to the Sûreté du Québec and local reporting.

According to N00vo Info, the crash happened at approximately 1:30 a.m. in Saint-Alexandre-de-Kamouraska, where two truck drivers were reportedly sleeping in their vehicles when they were struck. Officials said both drivers suffered minor injuries.

Authorities said the train was carrying about 120 passengers, who were evaluated following the incident.

The Transportation Safety Board said it has opened an investigation. Reports indicated the collision caused the train’s first two cars to derail.

Sûreté du Québec officials said the truck drivers had parked too close to the railroad tracks.
