Off-Duty LSU Police Sergeant Praised for Courage for Cutting Trapped Driver Free When Tire Blowout Overturns 18-Wheeler on Alabama Interstate
ALABAMA — An off-duty LSU Police Department sergeant stopped to help at the scene of a serious interstate crash in Alabama after an 18-wheeler overturned, trapping the driver inside the cab, according to LSU Police Department.

Authorities said Sgt. T. Schiebe came upon the wreck while traveling through Alabama with his family. Officials said the tractor-trailer reportedly suffered a tire blowout before overturning on the roadway.

Despite being off duty and out of state, officials said Schiebe assessed the scene and helped extricate the injured driver by cutting him free and guiding him out through a shattered windshield.
After the driver was removed from the cab, Schiebe continued providing care, officials said. When another motorist brought a first aid kit, Schiebe assisted with controlling bleeding and dressing the driver’s injuries until emergency medical services arrived.
LSUPD praised Schiebe’s actions, saying his willingness to help “regardless of duty status or location” reflects the department’s commitment to public safety.
