LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA — A crash involving a semi-truck forced a full shutdown of the 101 Freeway in East Hollywood early Tuesday before lanes reopened later in the morning, according to the California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Sky5 video showed crews working the scene on the northbound 101 at Vermont Avenue around 7 a.m., where a jackknifed tractor-trailer and a smaller vehicle were involved. The smaller vehicle appeared to have caught fire.

CHP’s incident log indicated the crash occurred around 5:15 a.m., and the Los Angeles Fire Department said it was reported at approximately 5:18 a.m. as a two-vehicle collision with a possible fuel spill. LAFD said the spill was later contained.

LAFD and CHP said two people suffered minor injuries. Officials said one person was transported to a hospital, while the other refused medical attention.

During the closure, traffic was diverted off the freeway at Vermont Avenue, and officials used an adjacent bus lane to help vehicles get through the area. A SigAlert was issued warning of heavy delays.

CHP said lanes began reopening in stages, and all lanes were reopened shortly after 9 a.m. There was no immediate word on what caused the crash.
