KINGMAN, ARIZONA — An Arizona Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol trooper arrested a commercial truck driver for DUI early Jan. 11 after stopping the vehicle on Interstate 40 near Kingman and observing signs of impairment, officials said.

According to AZDPS, state troopers with Commercial Vehicle Enforcement located the driver on I-40 near Kingman during the early morning hours and conducted a traffic stop. Officials said the driver showed signs of impairment during field sobriety tests and was later arrested for DUI.

Troopers said a review of the driver’s logbooks showed the driver had traveled from Las Vegas to Phoenix, but then — while allegedly impaired — forgot to deliver the load and began heading back toward Nevada. Investigators said once the driver reached Kingman, he turned around again and started driving back toward Phoenix. Troopers stopped the driver during the return trip and removed him from the roadway, AZDPS said.

In a statement, officials warned that impaired driving is especially dangerous in large commercial vehicles due to their size and stopping distance, urging drivers not to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol or other substances.
