Fire Crews Help Free Trapped Truck Driver and Rescue His Dog From a “Void Space” in the Wrecked Cab in Texas
CHAMBERS COUNTY, TEXAS — Baytown Fire Department crews responded to a mutual-aid call Friday afternoon for an 18-wheeler rollover with entrapment in Chambers County, where firefighters extricated the trapped driver and later rescued a dog found inside the cab, officials said.

Officials said the call came in shortly before 1:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, prompting the response of Baytown E5, E7, TR51 and B1. Crews arrived to find the tractor-trailer on its side with the driver trapped inside and immediately began rescue operations using heavy rescue equipment.
The driver was successfully extricated and airlifted to Memorial Hermann for treatment, officials said.

After the extrication, firefighters said they discovered a dog in a void space near the sleeper area of the cab. The dog was safely removed, appeared to be uninjured, and was placed in the custody of Chambers County Animal Control for safekeeping.
Officials said the department was glad to assist neighboring agencies and noted the incident ended with a positive outcome.
