Tractor-Trailer Crash and Fire Closes I-10 Westbound Across Atchafalaya Basin Bridge as Troopers Work Overnight Cleanup
WEST BATON ROUGE PARISH, LOUISIANA — An overnight tractor-trailer crash on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge caused severe fire damage and forced the closure of Interstate 10 westbound in West Baton Rouge Parish, with traffic diverted for several hours before the roadway reopened, according to Louisiana State Police Troop A and local reports.

Officials said the crash occurred before midnight Friday, Jan. 16, 2026, on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge near milepost 131. Troop A said the tractor-trailer sustained severe fire damage, and cleanup crews and troopers remained on scene as debris and wreckage were removed.

During the closure, westbound traffic was diverted at the LA 415 exit in West Baton Rouge Parish. Drivers traveling west were advised to use U.S. 190 as an alternate route to bypass the Atchafalaya Basin area.
In an update, officials said the wreckage was cleared and all lanes of I-10 westbound have reopened.
