KITTITAS, WASHINGTON — A snowplow driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation after a semi-truck struck a Washington roadway plow that was actively treating eastbound Interstate 90 near Kittitas, causing the plow to enter the median and roll over, according to officials and the Washington State Patrol.

Officials said the incident happened overnight on eastbound I-90 near Kittitas while the plow operator was applying road treatment product. The agency said the impact from the semi forced the plow into the median, where it rolled over.

The plow driver was transported to an Ellensburg hospital and later released, officials said, though he was reportedly sore the following morning.

Washington State Patrol said the driver of the semi-truck was arrested and charged with DUI, according to the statement.

Officials stressed that when plows are actively treating roadways, they must travel slower than normal to apply material evenly and effectively. The agency urged motorists not to drive impaired and not to crowd or pass plows while they are working, emphasizing both public safety and the need to keep snow-removal equipment available for storms.
