PERKASIE, PENNSYLVANIA — About 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled Monday afternoon after a tractor-trailer overturned on Ridge Road in Perkasie, prompting a hazmat response and an extended road closure, police said.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. on Ridge Road near Blooming Glen Road. Police said the tractor-trailer was hauling scrap metal when it went off the roadway and overturned, spilling debris onto the road along with the fuel.

The Perkasie Fire Company and the Office of Emergency Management responded, and police said crews were expected to remain on scene throughout the night to clean up the spill and debris.

The Sellersville Volunteer Fire Department said its crews were requested to assist, including Hazmat 27’s spill trailer. Officials said Battalion 27 secured the semi’s leaking saddle tanks using a patch kit, while large amounts of oil dry were spread along the roadway to absorb the diesel.

Police said the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection was notified, but authorities stated there was no threat to the local water supply.

Officials said Ridge Road between Blooming Glen Road and Callowhill Street would remain closed for an extended period, with fire police directing traffic during the shutdown.
