SPARKS, NEVADA — The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred early Saturday morning on westbound Interstate 80 near Vista Boulevard and is asking for the public’s help locating a commercial truck believed to be involved.

According to NHP, the crash happened at approximately 5:10 a.m. on January 24, 2026, when a man riding a bicycle on westbound I-80, east of Vista Boulevard, was struck by a vehicle. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the bicyclist deceased.

Investigators believe a blue semi-truck may have been involved in the collision. Authorities say the truck is possibly a Kenworth and is expected to have damage to the front right area. The semi may also display a unit number “122” in white lettering. The vehicle reportedly left the scene following the crash.

Westbound I-80 was closed at Mustang, near mile marker 25, for approximately three hours while troopers conducted the investigation. The freeway reopened at 8:17 a.m., and the scene has since been cleared.

Nevada Highway Patrol officials say additional details will be released as the investigation continues and after next of kin notification is completed.

Anyone who has seen the truck or has information related to this incident is urged to contact the Nevada Highway Patrol at 702-668-4100 or by dialing *NHP.
