DICKINSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A tractor-trailer hauling 80,000 pounds of soda ash crashed into a Cumberland County home Wednesday morning after a chain-reaction crash on Carlisle Road, leaving two people flown to the hospital and prompting an ongoing search for a vehicle that fled the scene, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Crews were dispatched just before 8:30 a.m. to the area of Carlisle Road and Peach Glen Road. State police said a vehicle turned onto Carlisle Road directly in front of the tractor-trailer, triggering the events that followed.

Investigators said the truck began tipping to the left and overturned. As it slid down the roadway, the tractor-trailer struck a third vehicle traveling south on Carlisle Road, then continued on to hit a telephone pole, a residence, and a tree. Police said the first vehicle involved left the scene before officers arrived.

The tractor-trailer driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was flown for treatment, state police said. The driver of the third vehicle was trapped, required extrication, and was flown to Hershey Medical Center with significant injuries.

The area remained closed for hours while crews worked to clear the wreckage and secure the scene. State police said the investigation is ongoing.
