GRAYSON COUNTY, Ky. — A Grayson County man was seriously injured Wednesday morning in a violent crash involving a semi-truck and a snowplow on the Western Kentucky Parkway.

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Caneyville and Leitchfield fire departments, EMS, and Kentucky State Police responded around 10:05 a.m. near the 98-mile marker on the eastbound Western Kentucky Parkway, where first responders say a westbound semi-truck crossed the median and struck an eastbound snowplow/salt spreader head-on.

Officials described the impact as extremely severe. The semi-truck’s engine block was ejected in the crash and came to rest in the middle of the parkway, with debris scattered across the snow-covered roadway.

The snowplow operator was identified as 23-year-old Taylor Pharis of Clarkson, who was working for a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet subcontractor clearing snow and ice at the time of the wreck. Firefighters extricated Pharis from the heavily damaged plow, and he was reported to have suffered severe injuries and significant blood loss. He was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital, where—according to an update shared by his wife on social media—he is expected to survive.

The male driver of the semi-truck, operated by ILoca Services Inc. (based in Aurora, Illinois), was transported to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center. Multiple first responders also reported that witnesses observed the semi traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.

The eastbound parkway remained shut down for nearly eight hours as Kentucky State Police conducted a reconstruction investigation, with traffic rerouted at the Caneyville exit. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Grayson County Detention Center deputies Billy Swift and Daniel Brooks assisted with traffic control while troopers worked the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
