Arkansas Troopers Stop Overweight Semi on I-30 and Find It 16,000+ Pounds Over the Legal Limit With No Permit
SOCIAL HILL, ARKANSAS — Arkansas State Police say a commercial vehicle was stopped during a weight enforcement detail on westbound I-30 near the Social Hill Rest Area, where troopers discovered the truck was significantly overweight and operating without a permit.
According to ASP, the stop happened Sunday, February 1, 2026, near mile marker 93. During the inspection, the commercial motor vehicle reportedly weighed 96,100 pounds — exceeding the 80,000-pound legal limit for an unpermitted load by more than 16,000 pounds.
Troopers warned that overweight trucks can create major safety and infrastructure issues.
“Overweight vehicles cause excessive wear on our roadways and pose serious safety risks to all motorists,” ASP stated.
No additional details were released regarding the driver, the carrier, or whether any citations were issued.
