BELTON, Texas — A tow truck driver trying to repossess a vehicle west of Belton Thursday afternoon fled the scene after a man allegedly confronted him with a handgun and fired, striking the tow truck, according to the Bell County Sheriff’s Office. No one was physically injured.

Deputies responded around 2 p.m. to the 7400 block of Sparta Road, just west of Belton, after a reported disturbance involving gunfire. Investigators said the vehicle owner, Ryan Neal Amos, came out of his residence and confronted the tow truck driver with a handgun while the driver was attempting the repossession. As the driver ran away, Amos allegedly fired and hit the tow truck.

Deputies attempted to make contact with Amos, but officials said he refused to come out of the residence. The sheriff’s office called in its SWAT team, crisis negotiators, and criminal investigators. The Temple Police Department assisted by deploying a drone to get a visual of the residence so officers could keep a safe distance.

After negotiations, Amos surrendered without incident and was taken into custody. He was booked into the Bell County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and his bond was set at $45,000, officials said.

Authorities said a search warrant issued by District Judge Wade Faulkner led to the seizure of evidence, and the case was presented to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office.
