Overturned Tractor-Trailer Hauling Milk Dumps 40,000 Gallons on I-81, Sends Driver to Hospital and Brings Hazmat Crews to Massive Spill
EAST HANOVER TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA — A tractor-trailer hauling about 40,000 gallons of milk overturned on Interstate 81 northbound early Tuesday, sending one person to the hospital and prompting a hazmat response as crews worked a large spill, officials said.

The crash happened shortly before 3:30 a.m. near mile marker 78.5 in Dauphin County, just north of Exit 77 (PA 39/Manada Hill/Hershey). Dauphin County dispatch reported that one person was transported to the hospital, though the extent of injuries has not been released.

PennDOT spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler said the truck overturned and spilled milk onto the interstate, requiring hazmat crews to respond. Traffic cameras showed the truck still on scene hours later, partially in the median and blocking lanes. Pennsylvania State Police Troop H (Harrisburg) was among the first to respond.
Road closure:
PennDOT said I-81 northbound is shut down from Exit 77 to Exit 80 (Route 743/Grantville/Hershey) as cleanup and recovery continue. The latest estimated reopening time was around 11:15 a.m.
