HIXTON, Wisconsin — A crash involving three commercial semi-trucks shut down westbound Interstate 94 for nearly four hours Wednesday morning, leaving one driver with life-threatening injuries.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:21 a.m. on February 11, 2026, at mile marker 100 on westbound I-94 between Hixton and Northfield in Jackson County. Hixton Fire and Rescue, Hixton EMS, and Mayo Ambulance were dispatched following initial reports of a three-semi collision with unknown injuries.

While crews were en route, Jackson County Dispatch reported that one or more of the semis may have been on fire. Additional fire support was requested from Black River Falls Fire and Rescue. However, upon arrival of Hixton Engine 52 at 5:33 a.m., no active fire was found.

All drivers were able to self-extricate before emergency personnel arrived. One patient sustained severe injuries and was transported by Mayo Med Flight. A landing zone was initially requested in Northfield with assistance from Pigeon Falls Fire Department but was later relocated to I-94.

The crash completely blocked westbound lanes of I-94, forcing traffic to be rerouted from Highway 95 in Hixton to Highway 121 through Northfield. Crews remained on scene until approximately 9:16 a.m.

Assisting agencies included the Wisconsin State Patrol, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County Highway Department, Mayo Med Flight and ground ambulance teams, Pigeon Falls Fire Department, Black River Falls Fire Department, Hixton First Responders, and Hixton Fire Department.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
