LAREDO, Texas — Federal agents seized nearly $6.8 million worth of cocaine from a tractor-trailer that claimed to be hauling fresh flowers across the border, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials announced.

The seizure occurred Tuesday, February 10, at the World Trade Bridge when a 2018 International tractor-trailer with a shipment manifest listing “roses/fresh flowers” was referred for secondary inspection.

After a canine screening and a non-intrusive inspection scan, officers discovered 211 packages concealed within the shipment. Authorities said the packages contained a total of 516.76 pounds of alleged cocaine, with an estimated street value of $6,899,798. Officials noted the amount seized is enough to produce more than 190,000 lethal doses.

CBP seized the narcotics, and Homeland Security Investigations has taken over the case. Officials did not immediately say whether any arrests were made.

“This substantial cocaine seizure at the World Trade Bridge highlights the steadfast dedication of our officers in safeguarding our borders and communities from the threat of illicit drug trafficking,” said Port Director Alberto Flores. “The discovery within a shipment of roses demonstrates the vigilance and expertise of our officers.”
