HENDRICKS COUNTY, Ind. — A tractor-trailer driver arrested following a deadly multi-vehicle crash in Hendricks County has been identified as 24-year-old Sukhdeep Singh, an Indian national who federal authorities say is illegally present in the United States after entering the country as an unaccompanied minor in 2018.

The crash occurred around 12 p.m. on February 18, 2026, at the intersection of U.S. 36 and County Road 525 East near Avon. According to the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a multi-vehicle collision at the busy intersection.

Investigators determined that a Freightliner semi-truck ran a red light and slammed into a Chevrolet pickup truck. The impact sent the pickup across a median, where it struck a Chrysler that was waiting in a turn lane.

The driver of the pickup, 64-year-old Terry Schultz, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Indiana State Police took Singh into custody at the crash site. Federal law enforcement sources confirmed to Fox News that Singh is in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody.

According to federal officials, Singh crossed the southern U.S. border illegally in 2018 as an unaccompanied minor and was released into the interior of the country under federal policies in place at the time, consistent with the Flores consent decree. He was reportedly released to a sponsor or relative.

Singh was living in Indiana as of January 2026 and had previously resided in New York.

Records show Singh was issued a non-domiciled commercial driver’s license by the state of Indiana in May 2025. He previously held a New York commercial driver’s license before transferring it to Indiana after establishing residency. Questions have been raised about how he was able to obtain the Indiana CDL.

Public Indiana driving records show Singh has five citations since 2022. Those include three speeding violations — allegedly driving 89 miles per hour in a 70 zone, 76 in a 55, and 74 in a 55. He was also cited for no registration and was ticketed for not having insurance following a January 8 crash on Harding Street.

Authorities said witnesses reported the semi-truck ran the red light before the fatal collision. The Freightliner was hauling a trailer at the time of the crash.

The Department of Homeland Security issued a statement noting the crash occurred less than two weeks after another fatal collision in Indiana involving a commercial truck driver who was also found to be illegally present in the United States.

The investigation into the Hendricks County crash remains ongoing. State authorities have not yet detailed additional criminal charges related to the fatality.
