SISKIYOU COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — A semi truck driver was arrested for driving under the influence after running off a muddy narrow roadway in northern California, with a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit.

On February 24, 2026, officers from the California Highway Patrol's Yreka Division responded to reports of a big rig that had driven off the roadway in Siskiyou County. Upon arrival, the driver displayed signs and symptoms of impairment, prompting officers to administer a Field Sobriety Test.

"It was determined the big rig driver was almost three times the legal limit," troopers said. The driver was subsequently arrested for DUI.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. The names and additional identifying information of those involved were not released.

CHP issued a statement emphasizing the heightened responsibility placed on commercial vehicle operators. "Operating a commercial vehicle is not just a job – it's a responsibility. Due to the size, weight, and potential impact of commercial trucks, commercial drivers are held to higher standards, especially when it comes to driving impaired. Our officers remain committed to keeping our roads safe for everyone. Drive responsibly and help us prevent tragedies before they happen."

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
