Dump Truck Driver Charged With Criminally Negligent Homicide After Failing to Yield to Pedestrians During Right Turn, Killing 60-Year-Old Woman at New Braunfels Intersection
NEW BRAUNFELS, TEXAS — A New Braunfels man was charged with criminally negligent homicide after a dump truck he was driving struck and killed a 60-year-old woman at a downtown intersection on February 23, 2026.
At approximately 5:45 p.m., New Braunfels Police and Fire departments were dispatched to the 200 block of North Seguin Avenue for reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian. Immediate lifesaving measures were provided at the scene, but the victim, identified as Stephanie Madzy, 60, of New Braunfels, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to investigators, the driver, Jude T. Jones, 60, was operating a dump truck and had been stopped at a red light at the intersection of North Seguin Avenue and Mill Street. Jones failed to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians and struck Madzy while turning right.
Jones was transported to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital at his request following the incident. He was subsequently detained, charged with criminally negligent homicide, and transferred to the Comal County Jail. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be pending.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
