Police said the man suffered a severe concussion and possible broken bones after hitting his head on the ground. Neighbors told FOX 11 they initially feared the man had been killed. A bystander's photo captured first responders rushing to assist the injured worker. He was transported to a hospital and is expected to survive.

The collision prompted authorities to shut down nearby intersections for hours, snarling traffic during the evening commute. One resident reported it took 30 to 45 minutes to travel just a few blocks, while others chose to walk home rather than wait out the delays.

Investigators said the truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities before completing a delivery approximately half a mile away. It remains unclear whether charges will be filed in connection with the incident.

No additional injuries were reported.
