Tractor-Trailer Carrying High Load Strikes Sign on I-526, Then Hits Eagle Drive Overpass on I-26 in North Charleston, Closing Westbound Lanes for Hours
NORTH CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA — Westbound lanes of Interstate 26 were closed for several hours Wednesday after a tractor-trailer carrying a high load struck an overpass near mile marker 210.
According to the North Charleston Police Department, the tractor-trailer first struck a sign on I-526 westbound just before Rivers Avenue, blocking a lane of travel. Unaware of the initial strike, the driver continued onto I-26, where the vehicle then collided with the Eagle Drive overpass, according to Cpl. Nick Pye of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

It remains unclear whether the Eagle Drive overpass sustained structural damage as a result of the collision. All westbound lanes of I-26 have since reopened.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
