CHP Catches Nine Overweight Trucks From the Same Project at California Grapevine Scale, All Exceeding 80,000-Pound Legal Limit by Up to 8,000 Pounds

GRAPEVINE, CALIFORNIA — Nine trucks from the same project were found to be significantly overweight during inspections at the Grapevine Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility on the morning of March 3, 2026, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to CHP, the nine trucks entered the scale with gross weights ranging between 85,000 and 88,000 pounds, well in excess of the 80,000-pound legal limit. All nine vehicles were associated with the same project.

"Overweight trucks are a serious issue in California and across the country, as they put the safety of other drivers on the road at risk and can cause damage to roadways and bridges," CHP said, urging truck drivers to properly scale their loads before hitting the road.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
