NORTH DAKOTA — The North Dakota Highway Patrol is reminding drivers that loads exceeding 14 feet in height require a permit, after a pickup truck hauling an oversized bin struck and damaged an overhead highway sign.

On March 3, 2026, NDHP took to social media to share photos of the incident, which showed visible damage to both the bin being hauled and the overhead sign it struck. Troopers used the incident as an opportunity to educate the public on over-height load requirements.

"Tip of the day: Loads over 14' high require a permit. We require permits to protect our infrastructure, the load, and the traveling public," NDHP said.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
