WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA — A Port St. Lucie man sentenced to life in prison for shooting a tow truck driver multiple times during a repossession attempt is appealing his conviction to a Florida appellate court.

On February 26, 2026, Omar Sueque, 61, filed an appeal of his life sentence to the Florida Fourth District Court of Appeals in West Palm Beach. Sueque was convicted by a St. Lucie County jury on December 3, 2025, on charges of attempted first-degree murder with a firearm and burglary of an occupied conveyance with an assault or battery. He was sentenced to life in state prison on February 17, 2026.

According to a Port St. Lucie Police Department arrest report, Sueque walked out of his home and began arguing with a tow truck driver who had arrived to repossess a vehicle. Sueque then retrieved a firearm from his garage and shot the driver multiple times. The driver survived the shooting.

Sueque's attorney, Ronald A. Hurst Jr. of Greenacres, confirmed the appeal in a statement. "Mr. Omar has filed an appeal of his conviction in order to seek review by the appellate court of certain legal rulings and procedures that occurred during the trial," Hurst said. "Mr. Omar maintains the utmost respect for the time, service, and decision of the jury. The appeal is not intended to diminish the jury's role, but instead to ensure that the legal process complied fully with the governing rules and constitutional protections."

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
