Tennessee Trooper Pulls Commercial Vehicle Out of Service After Finding Broken Suspension and Yellow Nylon Strap Used as Improvised Repair at Haywood County Weigh Station
HAYWOOD COUNTY, TENNESSEE — A commercial vehicle was placed out of service at a Tennessee weigh station after a trooper discovered serious suspension failures on the trailer — including an improvised repair attempt using a bright yellow nylon strap.

On March 5, 2026, a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper conducting a commercial motor vehicle inspection at the Haywood Westbound Scales discovered a broken air ride suspension control box and deflated air bags on the trailer. Images shared by THP show that someone had attempted to address the mechanical failure using a bright yellow nylon strap.

The vehicle was placed out of service until the necessary repairs were completed.
"Safety remains our top priority as we work to keep our roadways safe for everyone," THP said.
