MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE — New details have emerged in the case of Jeffrey Latson Jr., the Memphis semi-truck driver who was shot by Akron police during a chase on February 28 following a domestic disturbance at a Springfield Township IHOP — with his father now speaking out and revealing his son was shot four times, including once in the head.

Latson Jr.'s father, Jeffrey Latson Sr., who also drives a big rig, told WREG that his son was unarmed at the time he was shot and had called 911 during the chase to say he was afraid to stop because he feared police would kill him. "I asked them once we saw the body cam, 'can you please show me at what point on this body cam footage where you decided you need to kill him?' And not only that, sir, my son made a 911 call to tell them he was afraid to stop because he felt like they were going to kill him," Latson Sr. said.

Latson Sr. said his son is currently recovering, though doctors say it could take up to a year for a full recovery. "He's trying. He's working on getting better every day. He knew who we were when we visited him on Sunday, but the nurse said it's a miracle that he made it through those wounds," he said. The family believes police overreacted and is currently weighing their legal options. "We really just want him to survive and be okay. We don't know if he'll ever be the same again because of an argument," Latson Sr. said.
