ARLINGTON, OREGON — A 64-year-old semi-truck driver from La Crosse, Wisconsin was found deceased Thursday after suffering an apparent medical emergency that caused his vehicle to crash through a guardrail on Interstate 84, approximately 10 miles west of Arlington.

According to Oregon State Police, the truck began to swerve on westbound I-84 before crashing through a guardrail and coming to rest on its side near mile marker 128. The driver was pronounced deceased shortly after by the Gilliam County Sheriff's Office. Based on evidence at the scene, officials believe the driver suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash.

One lane of I-84 was closed during the investigation and recovery. The North Gilliam Rural Fire Protection District responded to the scene and commended all agencies involved. "Unfortunately it was a fatal accident. The slow lane was closed during the investigation and recovery. Great teamwork by all involved," the district said.

Responding agencies included the North Gilliam Rural Fire Protection District, North Gilliam Medic Ambulance, Gilliam County Sheriff's Office, Oregon State Police, Oregon Department of Transportation, Gilliam County Fire Services, and Purdy's Towing & Transport, as well as travelers who assisted at the scene.
