IOWA — An Iowa State Patrol trooper responding to a traffic complaint on Interstate 35 this week discovered an open container of alcohol in a commercial truck driver's cup holder — and further investigation revealed a blood alcohol content more than eight times the legal limit for CDL holders.

The trooper initially noticed an open alcohol container in the cup holder while interacting with the driver. Additional unopened containers were also present in the cab. Photos shared by state police showed multiple cans of Natural Ice beer, a mostly-empty container of Fireball whisky, and a container of "Beatbox" party punch.

Testing revealed the driver's BAC exceeded eight times the 0.04 legal limit for CDL holders operating a commercial motor vehicle. The driver was removed from the roadway and booked into jail.
