BEALETON, VIRGINIA — A 32-year-old Herndon man was arrested Thursday afternoon after his dump truck caused a three-vehicle crash on Route 17 in Fauquier County, caught fire, and he fled on foot — only to be found walking on nearby railroad tracks, actively drinking alcohol and determined to be intoxicated.

Fauquier County Sheriff's Office deputies responded on the afternoon of June 25 to a vehicle fire on Route 17 in Bealeton. Arriving deputies found the dump truck fully engulfed in flames and the driver gone. Investigation determined the dump truck had caused a three-vehicle crash. Another driver involved in the crash was transported to Fauquier Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

K-9 units and drone operators were deployed to search for the driver. The search perimeter was shifted northward and a deputy located the driver, identified as Alexander Marin, walking on railroad tracks nearby. When found, Marin was actively drinking alcohol and was determined to be intoxicated.

Marin faces charges of felony hit and run, driving in public intoxicated, felony damage to property, driving on a suspended license, driving a commercial vehicle without a CDL, and reckless driving. He was received at the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
