DAYTON, NEVADA — Two people are dead and a third was airlifted with life-threatening injuries after a semi-truck struck two passenger vehicles at the intersection of US Highway 50 and Traditions Parkway in Dayton, Nevada, early Sunday morning, with preliminary statements at the scene suggesting the truck driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

The Nevada Highway Patrol and Lyon County Sheriff's Office responded at approximately 7:14 a.m. on June 28, 2026, to the three-vehicle crash at US-50 and Segale Road/Traditions Parkway in Lyon County. Upon arrival, deputies and troopers found the semi had struck two passenger vehicles at the intersection. Two fatalities were confirmed on scene by medical personnel. One patient with life-threatening injuries was airlifted to a local hospital.

US-50 was closed in both directions at the scene, with traffic diverted onto secondary roads. The closure was expected to last two to three hours. Central Lyon County Fire Department and the Nevada Department of Transportation also responded.

"Preliminary statements obtained at the scene suggest the driver of the semi may have fallen asleep," the Lyon County Sheriff's Office said.

The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol is investigating. No additional details have been released regarding the identities of those involved or potential charges.
