A trooper with the Indiana State Police (ISP) arrested two men after discovering a large amount of illegal drugs during a safety inspection on Thursday.

The drug seizure occurred around 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022, when a trooper stopped a tractor trailer on eastbound I-70 at mile marker 37 for a routine compliance inspection.

ISP says that the truck was en route from Phoenix, Arizona, to Indianapolis, Indiana, when it was pulled over.

During the trooper’s conversation with 38 year old Florida-based truck driver Leonardo Hernandez, and 24 year old Florida-based passenger Rolando Bermudez Acevedo, “criminal indicators were observed.”

Following a consent search, the trooper discovered forty-four pounds of suspected cocaine.

The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $1 million, according to police.

The two men were arrested and booked into the Putnam County Jail.

Both men are charged with dealing a narcotic drug and possession of a narcotic drug.
