This week, the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) Carrier Enforcement Division held back-to-back truck inspection events in Lincoln and Dawson counties.

On Wednesday, July 20, a surprise inspection effort took place in North Platte. NSP’s Metropolitan Aggressive and Prevention Selective (MAPS) Team conducted 20 vehicle inspections, uncovering 55 violations. Seven vehicles and one driver were placed out of service on Wednesday.

On Thursday, July 21, troopers conducted a similar inspection campaign in Lexington. Troopers conducted 17 CMV inspections and discovered 46 violations. Four vehicles were placed out service. No drivers were placed out of service during the Lexington effort.

According to NSP, “surprise inspections focus on commercial vehicles that might not travel outside the city or pass-through weigh stations as part of their regular routes.”

The MAPS Team is funded largely by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Troopers check for compliance with federal safety regulations and enforce laws pertaining to weight, size, registration, dyed fuels, and permits associated with commercial vehicles. The MAPS Team was implemented in 1998 and consists of troopers from the Nebraska State Patrol Carrier Enforcement Division.
