U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers discovered and seized more than $200,000 worth of cocaine from a truck driver at the Mexican border late last week.

The contraband was discovered on April 16th at the Colombia-Solidarity International Bridge.

According to LMT Online News, the 2005 International hauling an empty trailer was referred for secondary inspection at the border. Upon secondary investigation, a K9 and x-ray inspection led to the discovery of 10 packages containing 27.77 pounds of cocaine. The cocaine has an estimated street value of about $214,200.

“Drug trafficking organizations are persistent in their attempts to smuggle hard narcotics into the United States,” said Acting Port Director Eugene Crawford, Laredo Port of Entry. “We will continue to intercept these dangerous drugs at our ports of entry before they can harm our communities.”

The truck driver is a 27-year-old Mexican citizen, and the incident is still under investigation.
