An NHL hockey team will have some disappointed fans in the stands after a load of bobbleheads was stolen in California en route to Pittsburgh in a cargo theft incident.

On Thursday, March 14, the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins announced that Jaromir Jagr bobbleheads were stolen in California. As a result, the team says that fans who were expecting to get their hands on one of the bobbleheads at tonight’s game in Pittsburgh against the San Jose Sharks will be out of luck.

“The Penguins learned that they were victims of cargo theft after failing to receive the shipment as scheduled. The team worked with the manufacturer and transportation companies to alert the appropriate state and federal authorities who are currently working to locate the cargo. This is an open investigation and no further comment will be made in order to not hamper with the recovery of the goods,” the team said in a social media statement.

The Penguins say that they’ll give fans a voucher so they can pick up their bobbleheads at a later date, once the stolen items or recovered, or after new bobbleheads are manufactured.

“We were shocked to be a victim of cargo theft, and we are working closely with local and federal authorities on the investigation,” said Penguins President of Business Operations Kevin Acklin. “While this unfortunate incident adds to the legend of Jaromir Jagr, who will be in attendance as our guest at tonight’s game, we look forward to resolving this theft and delivering the prized Jagr bobbleheads to their rightful homes, with our fans,” said Acklin.

The team later shared video featuring Jagr himself poking fun at the bobblehead heist.
