The victim, identified as Hermon Lewis Estes Jr., had slowed to a stop for unknown reasons when the northbound dump truck behind him was unable to brake in time and crashed into the rear passenger side of his Chevy Silverado, according to WLWT. The impact forced Estes’ truck into the southbound lanes, where it collided with another fully loaded dump truck.
Estes, a roofer and owner of H.L. Estes Roofing, was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies said both dump trucks had dash cameras that captured the collision, and the footage is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.

Family members described Estes as a devoted and loving grandfather. His granddaughter, Anastasia Jonas, shared her heartbreak, saying she had spoken with him just hours before the crash. “I just really miss him right now… I miss you so much grandpa,” she said.
