Canadian police arrested a truck driver following an ‘impaired driving spree’ during which he allegedly struck two vehicles, several trees, ran a red light and exceeded speed limits.

Around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 27, police responded to “multiple” calls about a red Kenworth tractor and flatbed trailer driving dangerously on Anthony Henday Drive in Edmonton, Alberta.

Callers said that the Kenworth driver was swerving erratically and driving at speeds of 150 km/h (93 m.p.h.) while traveling east.

The Edmonton Police Department details what they described as the “impaired driving spree”:

The truck subsequently entered the Walker area, struck a parked GMC Sierra, knocked over a tree, and then ran a red light at the intersection of 50 Street and 22 Avenue SW.

The truck then continued southbound along 50 Street, travelling at 100 km/h in a 70 km/h zone, driving through a ditch before turning eastbound onto 41 Avenue SW. After turning north onto 34 Street SW, the truck rear-ended a Dodge Ram with five occupants, veered off the road, struck several trees, and came to a stop in a field.

The Dodge Ram driver, a 25 year old male, was hospitalized with serious injuries but is expected to survive. The other four occupants of the Dodge Ram were taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Truck driver Dominic Zajac, 39, has been charged with impaired operation causing bodily harm, dangerous operation causing bodily harm and refusal to provide breath sample.

Police say that Zajac’s license has been suspended.
