Drivers who use E-ZPass should be aware of a phishing scam, according to the PA Turnpike Commission.

On April 7, 2024, the PA Turnpike Commission issued a phishing alert targeting E-ZPass account holders requesting personal financial information to settle outstanding toll amount.

Officials say that scammers are sending out phishing text messages that appear to be from “Pa Turnpike Toll Services.”

The text messages claim that users must settle their toll accounts or face a late fee.

The PA Turnpike Commission says that other toll agencies across the U.S. have reported similar phishing scam attempts.

If you receive an unsolicited text, email, or similar message suggesting it is from E-ZPass or another toll agency, officials say you should not click on the link.

Instead, E-ZPass account holders should use approved safe methods to check their accounts including the official PA Turnpike E-ZPass website or the PA Toll Pay app available from the Apple App Store, or Google Play store.

Victims of a phishing scam attempt can file a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov.
