Emergency crews responded to a tractor-trailer rollover on the New York State Thruway near Amsterdam on Thursday afternoon, causing significant traffic disruptions. The crash occurred shortly after 4 p.m. near Exit 27 in the town of Florida.
According to state police, the semi-truck was traveling eastbound in the left lane when it veered onto the left shoulder and overturned. The truck was hauling steel beams, which scattered across the median, leading to lane closures for several hours.
Both the truck driver and a passenger sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were airlifted to Albany Medical Center via LifeNet helicopter for treatment. Several agencies assisted at the scene, including the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Town of Florida Volunteer Fire Department, the Pattersonville Fire Department, and the New York State Thruway Authority. Officials continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
