18-Year-Old Woman Dies After Crashing Into Rear of Semi Truck in Jasper County

Authorities have confirmed that an 18-year-old woman from Joplin has died following a collision with a semi-truck on Monday morning in Jasper County, Missouri.

The crash occurred just before 9 a.m. near the Brooklyn Heights exit, about three miles west of Carthage.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the woman was speeding and not paying attention when her car ran underneath the rear of a tractor-trailer.

She was transported to a Springfield hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries before noon on Wednesday.

A 21-year-old male passenger from Joplin in the same vehicle suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a Joplin hospital.

The semi-truck driver also sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a Carthage hospital.

The incident remains under investigation by authorities.
