The Kansas Highway Patrol has confirmed that I-70 between Goodland and Colby remains closed due to a severe multi-vehicle crash on Friday that resulted in multiple fatalities.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this crash, as well as the first responders assisting at the scene.”

Goodland Fire Chief Brian James shared several photos from the incident, describing Friday as “the toughest and most emotionally draining experience” in his 22 years of fire service.

“Coordinating multiple agencies, treating over 30 patients, triaging the injured, dealing with more than 55 vehicles involved, and battling high winds that kicked up so much dust we couldn’t see more than 50 to 100 feet—it was an overwhelming challenge. Keeping my crews and myself safe was a struggle in itself.”
