WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump is set to sign a new executive order on Monday mandating that all commercial truck drivers operating in the United States must demonstrate proficiency in English.

According to a White House document obtained by Breitbart News, the order asserts that English proficiency is a "non-negotiable safety requirement" for professional drivers. The order emphasizes that drivers must be able to read and understand traffic signs, communicate with safety officers, border patrol agents, agricultural checkpoint personnel, and cargo weight station employees, and must be able to give and receive directions and feedback in English.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy will oversee the enforcement and review of the new standards. Although federal regulations have long required English proficiency for commercial drivers, the administration argues that these standards have not been adequately enforced in recent years.

Under the order, Duffy and the Department of Transportation will be responsible for removing truckers from service who fail to meet the language requirements. They will also work on enhancing the protocols for approving and verifying commercial driver’s licenses.

The move is part of a broader initiative aimed at improving roadway safety and regulatory compliance across the nation’s commercial transportation sector.
