I-75 Closed in Both Directions Near Vandalia After Power Line Collapse

Severe weather and high winds caused major disruptions in Vandalia, Ohio on Wednesday evening, knocking down multiple trees and power lines — including a high-tension 3-phase power line that fell across Interstate 75 near Northwoods Boulevard.

As a result, all lanes of I-75 were shut down north of I-70, bringing traffic to a standstill in both directions. Officials urged drivers to avoid the area and take alternate routes while crews worked to clear the obstruction.

According to WDTN, the incident has also caused a significant power outage on the east side of Vandalia.

Utility provider AES was contacted and is currently dispatching a crew to assist with repairs. Local authorities say the restoration will take time and remind residents not to call 911 for outage updates, but instead contact AES at 877-4OUTAGE.

OHGO traffic cameras reported delays of over 30 minutes, with vehicles at a complete stop in both directions. The situation remains active and developing.
