Truck Driver Killed, Road Crew Injured in I-75 Crash in Monroe County, Michigan

truck crash on I-75 in Frenchtown Township, Monroe County left a 41-year-old truck driver from Bear, Delaware dead and several road construction workers injured Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-75, near the I-275 split, where MDOT crews were repairing the left lane. The truck collided with one of two attenuator vehicles placed behind the crew for impact protection, then jackknifed and struck the second MDOT vehicle.

According to Michigan State Police, the truck's cargo of aluminum cans spilled across the roadway during the crash.

The truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while several MDOT workers sustained minor injuries. The crash prompted a full closure of I-75 at Exit 18 (Nadeau Road) and at Exit 20 (I-275) until 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Michigan State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division and Frenchtown Township Fire Department also responded. The crash remains under investigation.
