I-80 Travel Alert: Superload Transformer Move to Cause Delays Starting June 30

LARAMIE, Wyo. – The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is advising I-80 motorists to prepare for major slowdowns beginning Monday, June 30, as a massive superload carrying a transformer will be transported from Laramie to Medicine Bow.
The superload is 385 feet long, 26 feet wide, 17'3" tall, and weighs 1,484,000 pounds. Due to its size, both lanes of travel will be used, and speeds will drop to 10 mph over bridges.

Leaves Laramie railyard in the morning

Enters I-80 via the Snowy Range on-ramp (milepost 311) around 10:30 a.m.

Stops at the truck parking lot at MP 307

Tuesday, July 1:

Departs MP 307 at 5:00 a.m., arrives at Arlington (MP 272) around 7:00 a.m.

Continues via WY-13 to US-30/287, ending in Medicine Bow

Motorists should expect travel delays and possible full stoppages, especially over bridges. The load will travel at 25–30 mph on open stretches.
WYDOT also notes that the superload will return to Laramie in mid-July, and two more transformers are scheduled for transport later this summer.
